Progress…

Hello there!  Sorry it’s been so long since I posted anything.

I’ve been studying up with Blender and Unity, and I recently started working on my first actual game using the two.  It’s not anything crazy, but it’s got rules and winning and such, so it’s a big step up from the random disjointed tests that I had been doing previously.  I love these pieces of software!  Unity is way smarter than Flash, and Blender has such an astronomically huge feature-set that my brain exploded.

Anyway, let’s cut to the quick–the game’s not done or anything, but you can play the current version here.

  1. Nice work man :) but just curious is that pro version of Unity or free one?
second thing I just wanna ask is about Blender tutorials as I am starting with it but non was talking about good textures and how to create good pre-rendered textures so just curious about some help as I am thinking to migrate to Unity but needed to be sure that there is a good plenty of tutorials in Unity and Blender so not suffer alot 😀

  2. Thanks!

This is the free version of Unity, but I’ll get the Pro version eventually. It’s got some features that I really really wish I had (most notably the profiler, bitmap effects, and render-to-texture, but also some cool graphical things like deferred lighting and realtime shadows). Still, the free version is startlingly well-equipped and doesn’t feel hobbled at all.

What do you mean by prerendered textures? Are you talking about baking in normal maps and ambient occlusion, etc? If so, Blender can do all of that stuff, and there are lots and lots of tutorials available (though Blender changes somewhat frequently, so some tutorials end up being out-of-date). I’ve had particularly good luck with the lessons from BlenderCookie. Unity’s in-house tutorials are really solid, too, and the included script reference is pretty excellent.

  3. thnx for the reply but another question why not using Stage3D with flash instead of Unity what makes you go for unity?

  4. Thunderleg

    Looks fantastic, as always. :)

  5. Unity is a nice engine, I’m about to release a game with it. It can be hard at first, but it’s definitely one of the nicer engines. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions about it, I’m always happy to lend a helping hand. ben@godlike.me.uk
